Exercise Tips

  • Don't overdo the first day.  Take it slow and build up.  It's not going to do you any good if the first day you go out and run 2 miles if that makes you too sore to do any exercise for the next week.

  • If you need to build up to your exercise target, then go a little bit further each day until you reach your target.  If you can only walk a half a block the first day, walk a half a block and a little bit more the second day.  As long as you are steadily working to your exercise target it doesn't matter when you get there.  It just matters that you do get there.

  • Don't think of exercise as torture.  Yes, at first it seems hard and maybe even discouraging (nothing is worse than huffing and puffing to make it a half a block and having some young thin runner blow right past you) but don't give up! 

  • Exercise every day for 30 straight days - every day, no exception - and you will feel so alive and re-energized and happy with yourself that you will WANT to exercise. As a matter of fact you won't be able to wait to exercise each day.  Don't believe it?  Do it for 30 straight days and see for yourself.  I dare you. 

  • Sneak more exercise into your daily routine.  Take the steps instead of the elevator.  Park a bit further away from the store entrance than usual.  Wash your car yourself.   Walk around while you are on the phone.  Do leg lifts or ride an exercise bike while you watch TV.
