Here it is the #1 Best Weight Loss Tip of
all time:
- Really truly want
to lose weight.
Yes, it seems obvious, but the cold
hard truth is if you really truly want to lose weight and you aren't
one of the .001% of the population that has a medical reason why they
can't, you will lose weight. If you don't want to really, really
badly then you won't. It really is just that simple (notice I
didn't say easy, I said simple. Weight loss isn't easy.)
There are a lot of reasons people don't
want to lose weight even though they say they do and even think they
do. On a deeper level they don't want to and that is what's
keeping them from succeeding losing weight.
The Top 4 reasons people don't
want to lose weight:
- Someone
else tells you, whether verbally or through their actions, that you
need to lose weight. This is a biggie. Let's
face it. None of us want to be told what to do. We
resist.
If a spouse, parent or friend tells
us we need to lose weight or tries to coerce us into losing weight,
on the surface we may agree with them (yeah, okay, we need to lose
some pounds) but at a deeper level that ticks us off. If
they love us it shouldn't matter how much we weigh, right?
Right.
The problem is that instead of
telling them to love us as we are or take the risk that they might
not, we go on a diet or starve ourselves or take weight loss pills
so we can win their approval or love and the whole time we're
resentful about it. We shouldn't HAVE to do anything for their
approval or love.
So, to get back at them we don't
really give it our best shot or we lose a bit of weight and as soon
as we do we gain it right back. Ha! That will show them! The only problem
is that it usually leads to failure or weight gain for us.
- You are
scared that if you really truly try to lose weight, you can't.
Some people don't want to try because what happens if
they really truly try to lose weight and just can't do it.
It's better to live with the hope of one day losing weight than
putting all your effort into it and failing, right? Then you
won't even have the hope anymore. Wrong. Wrong,
wrong, wrong.
If you really, truly want to lose
weight you will. If you slip and fall along the path so what?
Get up, dust yourself off, and keep trying. If you really
truly want to lose weight and go for it full force and follow a
sensible weight loss plan, you will lose weight. It's a
fact. There are no exceptions to this, none.
The universe hasn't singled you out as the one person in the world
who won't be able to lose weight.
- You are
scared to be thin. Sometimes people like to be
overweight because it confirms other people's idea about them or
their own idea about themselves. For example, if you think you
are a bad person or your dad or mom told you that you were, you may
want to keep being overweight because it confirms that idea of
yourself. "If I were a good person, I could lose weight."
or "I've tried all sorts of diets and I'm still overweight. I
can't do anything right." If you have thought these thoughts
all your life, it's scary to think of yourself in a new way. (I am a
good person and I deserve to be thin!)
Another reason that goes along with
this is that you may be scared to be thin because you don't want to
attract attention and being thin would expose you to unwanted
attention. This is a very natural fear if you were abused as a
child.
- You just
don't want to lose weight. This is more common than
you may think. Sometimes people just don't want to lose
weight. Yet because society tells us we should all be a size 6
we try to lose weight anyway. If you don't want to lose
weight, don't try. You don't get a gold star in life for being
a size 6. You get a gold star for being a good person and
being happy with yourself. If you are happy with yourself
whatever size you are, that's super! Super models would pay
for that happiness.
Beware though - don't use this as an
excuse to eat more and don't fool yourself into thinking you are
happy and content if you truly aren't. Only you know if you
are really content. You can lie to other people, but you can't
lie to yourself. If you aren't content being the weight you
are, then don't fool yourself into believing you are. You have
the power to change your weight. If you decide that you really
truly want to change it you will.
Basically what all of this weight
loss stuff boils down to is this:
If you (and only you) want to lose
weight, you can and you will. If someone else wants you to lose
weight, if you have a reason why you are afraid to be thin, if you are
afraid of failing or if you just plain don't want to lose weight, then
you won't lose weight and you shouldn't put yourself through the
torture of trying and failing.
You can do it if you really truly want
to do it.
Having lost weight is one of the best
feelings in the world - not only does it make you feel better about
yourself and everyone else, it makes you more confident, happier, and
healthier. It can change your life in so many good ways that you
never thought possible. It can be one of the best experiences of
your life. It's one of the best, most wonderful gifts you can
give yourself. A gift to you, from you.
You deserve to lose weight and you
deserve to be thin! You CAN do it!!!!!
